This is a really good thread. A lot of people think that a book starting with "action" means an actual "pew-pew fight fight" action scene. No, it means a scene in which something happens that is a keystone to the whole story. Take it out, and everything falls apart.

In my continuing efforts to review books I've read this year (and read more)... Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeiries by Heather Fawcett! I loved it. I loved the journalistic style, the prickly main characters, the moments of peril. Definitely looking forward to the sequel!
