Unlikely to be what you expect, but there is no greater complex system than cosmic rebalancing as portrayed in the fictional story of love, in 'I Am Lilith' by Melanie Dufty. Holds many answers.

Panarchy: More technical than poetic, I guess. It provides a model for how multiple systems influence one another at different scales, and at different cycle stages. An alternative to single direction influence (heirarchy). Been a long time since I read this one!
