As someone who runs a nonprofit dedicated to blockchain education, I'm often asked "where should I start?" My answer is always the same: The Internet of Money series by Andreas M. Antonopoulos. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, these books convey the implications of blockchain tech in a clear and accessible way; his analogies are humorous, eye-opening, and perspective-shifting. I often find myself texting quotes from the books to friends, followed by the remark "YAAAS!". Read these books to inform your own understanding of what there is to be so excited about! -- Jinglan Wang, Executive Director of the Blockchain Education Network

- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2017Highly recommended - especially if you want to get the bigger picture of the potential (and almost certain) disruptive impact of Bitcoin and Ethereum technologies..
I have worked my whole life in IT, both building and selling software for and to banks, insurance companies and especially large investment companies. During that time I also must have been involved in 100's of legal contracts. Plus for the last 12 years I have lived in the Philippines owning and running a resort that everyday bangs into the problems of getting modest advance payments from prospective customers from many different countries (using credit cards, bank transfers, Paypal etc). All areas potentially impacted by bitcoin and Bitcoin technology..
Plus I am a very conservative investor, who scoffed at Bitcoin just 3 months ago and sagely told others not to be duped. But Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies started to interest me 2 months ago (late comer, yes!) and I started to do some research. The Internet of Money is about the 5th book I have read including the whole history of bitcoin (the currency) and Bitcoin (the technology).plus the history of money and credit in general. As a result I am now starting to understand the full potential of the disruptive long term impacts of fully open, infinitely scalable, decentralized, anonymous peer to peer technology supported by new encryption techniques and the immutable nature of blockchains. Plus the applications now being built on this technology such as smart contracts.
And the more you read, the clearer it becomes that we are indeed in a game-changing era. Maybe even more so than the early stages of the internet, which I started using in the early 90's. Especially, from the perspective of huge companies like banks, investment companies and maybe 70% of the globes currencies, etc etc. But also from the perspective of the under-banked and unbanked as Andreas calls these huge groups.
Certainly the short term (next 2 years?) will be very volatile, especially for those who invest in crytpocurrencies or crowdfunding. But the longer term impacts may turn out to be mind blowing and there will be big winners, big losers and big opportunities.
Without doubt, The Internet of Money Vol 2 will be the first book I will now recommend to my friends who are still skeptics or just starting to become interested in all the above. It is easy to read, concise, quite detailed, but not too much and most importantly keeps the big picture in focus at all times. Plus you can watch the podcasts if you prefer! ..

- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2021Andreas goes into deeper detail about the revolutionary impact of crypto currencies. I liked the analysis of bitcoin’s proof-of-work technology and the immutable nature of the blockchain history. The economic disincentives of a hypothetical, coordinated attack on Bitcoin are extremely convincing. A compelling comparison is made to alt-coins and proof-of-stake designs. I have a much better understanding of layer 2 solutions for scalability. There was a great section on layer 2 payment channels and the lightening network technology. Overall - an exciting, informative and easy read!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2021Insightful. Provides some good thought provoking ideas and also some insight and deep aha moments regarding bitcoin and cryptocurrencies as a whole.
Sometimes repetitive especially if you read the previous 2 volumes. Delivers a bit too subjective opinion and viewpoints up to the point where you cannot be sure whether you get presented with the full picture or not.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2023I really enjoyed this first dive to the world of Bitcoin.
Strongly recommend this book (all three chapters) if you're interested in Bitcoin and Blockchain technology in general - and you are not an engineer.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2018Phenomenal book that represents a collection of Mr. Antonopoulos’ years of dedication and monk-hood into the sector.
I read through it in 1.5 days and feel equipped to speak intelligently about the subject with others.
It’s a new sector where “in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king!”
Make yourself anti-fragile, eat some mud pies, and get to work -because progress waits for no one!
Recommendations to the author:
As an academic, your incredible work will experience, in my humble opinion, a force multiplier and enhanced authority, as a subject matter expert, through the robust use of references - which the present (2nd edition) currently lacks.
Call me and I’ll contribute to same. Cheers.
Thank you for your extraordinary effort within these two volumes.
Very Respectfully,
Sean M. Holt, MBA
- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2018Internet of Money Vol. 2 summarizes the latest changes in technology. As author himself put’s it, to keep up with the technology is almost impossible, especially since the rate of change is accelerating. Immensity of the change is hard to grasp, unless you start to consider it.
I definitely recommend to this to everyone who is interested in participating the world of tomorrow. Technology grants us power, it’s up to us to learn to how to use it virtuously. Possibilities are exciting!
My favorite picks from the book:
- “Bitcoin is not the money of the physical space, it is the money of the internet. Bitcoin is not the money of the nation - state ; it is the money of the world.”
- “Bitcoin is not the money of the current generation; it is the money of the generations to come.”
This book is a must read for anyone who wants to be a positive change in the world.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2017Andreas is one of my favorite cryptocurrency experts who can boil down complex material so that anybody can understand it. Andreas' book is a great read and I highly recommend it for anybody interested in getting into the space. I've been in the space for several years, and there is nobody that can capture an audience like Andreas either through his writings or lectures. Andreas will help you understand the potential for this technology on a world-wide level; and when he says think of currency as the first layer; he means it as we are at the start of a enormous revolution. Buy the book and support Andreas as his passion for this field and helping others is second to none.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2022Highly recommend adding this to your list read the first and a great read. Book 3 next for me!
Bitcoin and crypto are here to stay!
