Today, we're going to talk about breaking echo chambers and sacrificing sacred cows.
The idea of this conversation began when I posted about Republicans for Harris. This garnered a strong reaction from my Facebook community. Nathan commented with the following message on my post.
"This breaks the echo chamber if nothing else. It creates cognitive dissonance within a community, which does more good than anything else you could possibly do. We do not have a responsibility or the right to change anyone else's mind. But we do have the responsibility to use the minds we have, and to encourage others to do the same. You are doing a great job of that!"
I said, let's do a podcast episode about that, and he agreed. Now, here we are!

If you're arguing with someone quite different than you (who does not share your stories and values) about facts, you could end up filling yourself with anxiety and getting deeply frustrated. If you see your rival's point of view as dangerous to yourself, your community, or your country, you’re also going to be inclined to act more controlling by their strong stance exhibiting behaviors that seem unlike you.
