Read this audio blog post here. Who men choose to become and how we shape the next generation of rising leaders shapes the type of world we contribute to building. America, and the church inside it, is facing an identity crisis as we wrestle over who we want to become as Christians and as a country and what story we want to tell through the way of life we embody. We have two competing visions shaping men and leaders across our society. One of these visions perpetuates tragedy, while the other minimizes it. We'll start by exploring the latter. #courage #masculinity #leadership #responsibility

Episode Type: Listen to Learn

Welcome to a listen-to-learn episode of the Share Life podcast. I'm speaking with Nathan Dohse, an educator, advocate, and speaker working in the music industry, in the Nashville area and who was on the podcast before. Today, we're going to talk about breaking echo chambers and sacrificing sacred cows.

The idea of this conversation began when I posted about Republicans for Harris. This garnered a strong reaction from my Facebook community. Nathan commented with the following message on my post.

"This breaks the echo chamber if nothing else. It creates cognitive dissonance within a community, which does more good than anything else you could possibly do. We do not have a responsibility or the right to change anyone else's mind. But we do have the responsibility to use the minds we have, and to encourage others to do the same. You are doing a great job of that!"

I said, let's do a podcast episode about that, and he agreed. Now, here we are!

Episode Type: Listen to Learn

Welcome to a listen-to-learn episode of the Share Life podcast. I'm speaking with a former university professor and Canadian Christian, David Koyzis. David has been on the Share Life podcast to discuss his book Political Visions & Illusions and Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

In this episode, we're talking about the values required for someone to hold political leadership. David articulated 7 guidelines he shared after the Jan 6 hearings, and has resurfaced in a recent blog post about America's current societal crisis, in light of Trump's 34 felony convictions and adamant Republican support.

In this conversation, we discuss the 7 guidelines and the history that brought us here.

According to David Koyzis, a would be office-holder...

  1. must respect the rule of law above his or her own ambitions
  2. must be loyal to the country's constitution and abide by its provisions, even to his or her own disadvantage;
  3. must not abuse the office to advance personal financial or other interests;
  4. must honourably concede to his or her successor when defeated in an election;
  5. must refrain from divisive rhetoric and undertake, where possible, to unite the nation around a common task of doing public justice;
  6. must unwaveringly adhere to the truth and refrain from self-justification to cover missteps;
  7. must be generous and charitable to opponents and supporters alike.

Episode Type: Inspirational People

In this Inspirational People interview on the Share Life podcast, I'm speaking with Denise Marie Stilley!

This is a unique interview because Denise and I met in high school in a TV tech class, where we produced a daily news show for the school called Eagle Eye News. Since then, we have not stayed in touch, but recently, I shared some footage from our class all those years ago, and we reconnected. After looking through Denise's social media profiles, I was impressed with the places she's been and the journey she trekked, so I invited her to share her story with us.

He discusses failures and successes throughout his medical journey. The focus of this conversation is to learn about Glenn's story and the lessons he learned, not to discover the merit of his medical intervention argument. While we discuss his medical condition and various forms of treatment, the information provided should not be used for diagnosing or treating a health problem or disease.  A powerful way to discover the truth is to deeply challenge our own assumptions of what we believe, seek out competing information and perspectives from the strongest people, groups, and institutions, and invite the strongest arguments against our own. A dialectic between the best arguments for and against something is how we can deeply understand all facets, and learn to discern what is most true, as we make the best decision we can.
