From the Back Cover
Most of us believe that we will finally feel satisfied and content with our lives when we get the good news we have been waiting for, find a healthy relationship, or achieve one of our personal goals. However, this rarely happens. Good fortune is often followed by negative emotions that overtake us and result in destructive behaviors. "I don't deserve this," "this is too good to be true," or any number of harmful thought patterns prevent us from experiencing the joy and satisfaction we have earned. Sound familiar? This is what New York Times bestselling author Gay Hendricks calls the Upper Limit Problem, a negative emotional reaction that occurs when anything positive enters our lives. The Upper Limit Problem not only prevents happiness, but it actually stops us from achieving our goals. It is the ultimate life roadblock.
In The Big Leap, Hendricks reveals a simple yet comprehensive program for overcoming this barrier to happiness and fulfillment, presented in a way that engages both the mind and heart. Working closely with more than one thousand extraordinary achievers in business and the arts—from rock stars to Fortune 500 executives—whose stories are featured in these pages, the book describes the four hidden fears that are at the root of the Upper Limit Problem.
The Big Leap delivers a proven method for first identifying which of these four fears prevents us from reaching our personal upper limit, and then breaking through that limitation to achieve what Hendricks refers to as our Zone of Genius. Hendricks provides a clear path for achieving our true potential and attaining not only financial success but also success in love and life.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2024This book should be on your annual read list -it’s that much of a guiding light. Hendricks explains why we won’t allow ourselves to enjoy sustained bliss, contentment, and happiness and then gives us the guidebook to get past the upper limiting ways we sabotage ourselves. The personal growth from these concepts will move you towards success in work and life.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2021I really loved this book. The ideas within it are potentially very transformative and I’ve had some definite a-ha moments. It was recommended to me by my confidence coach and I now see why he’s been telling me for a while now that many of my behaviours are upper-limit behaviours.
Overall: I highly recommend this book. Roll your sleeves up and put in the work to get the most out of it.
I gave it only 4 stars rather than 5 because I felt that the way the book lays out and explains ideas could have been better structured. With life-changing books like this I usually make written or typed summary notes anyway so that I can refresh my understanding of the material each day for a couple of weeks just to make it stick. I feel that if you want a self-development book to really impact you, then it’s YOUR responsibility to squeeze every drop of usefulness out of it - this means writing summary notes, revising the material, doing the exercises *properly*, and persevere above all else. So despite the explanatory structure not always hitting the mark, the ideas themselves are solid. The knowledge that Hendricks is a highly regarded expert in his field carried me through those moments where my fear wanted to pick on one little snag and use it as ‘evidence’ that I should give up. Ironically, one of my Upper Limit behaviours ;)
- Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2025I think this book needs to be read by every person that is wanting to grow into their best self.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2024This book is a life changer. It completely alters the way I approach life. It’s a great read while learning manifestation and law of assumption because we manifest what we believe we deserve.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2024The introduction to the "upper limit problem" was a new concept for me and very enlightening, possibly even life-changing. I also greatly appreciated his explanation that there are not only one, but four reasons people have an upper-limit problem - it was insightful, and easy to find yourself in one of the four "types". However, I feel the book lacked real follow-through on how to break through the upper limit (other than "just do it.") While there was some good advice sprinkled in there, I felt the author kind of lost his way after laying out the problem. For example, the book would have benefited from offering specific advice for each of the four types, as the solution isn't "one size fits all." In addition, some of the chapters (like the one on time-management) felt like space fillers: interesting, but not really addressing the issue at hand. Nevertheless, I'm glad I read it, as it laid out a premise that was original and helpful to recognize.

5.0 out of 5 stars True wisdom
Simple, concise, and entertaining. This book is very impactful psychologically and it is appropriate in length. The author distills very complex and insightful ideas into straightforward and easy to assimilate information, which is masterfully done. My only gripe is that there a couple of questionable claims by the author, but if you can overlook those, this book is a gem.
